Just like many other parts of the Citroen M35, the exhaust has been manufactured specifically for this car. Unfortunately it may happen that after 45 years it has to be replaced. Off course it will be feasible to use parts that are readily available at your local garage and construct a usable exhaust from those parts. However, if you are the owner of a Citroen M35, you will probably only want to mount an exhaust that is (almost) original.
We are starting an initiative to have some new M35 exhausts manufactured by Quicksilver Exhaust Systems in the UK. If we can place several orders simultaneously, the price per exhaust will go down substantially.

Why Quicksilver?
We believe it is important that the sound and appearance of a new exhaust on an M35 resemble those of the original as much as possible. Quicksilver Exhaust Systems (www.quicksilverexhausts.com) will use an existing exhaust as a “pattern” for the construction of a new exhaust. They will try to imitate the inner construction of the mufflers as well. Their preferred approach is to open up the old muffler and after inspection weld it back together again. If that is not feasible they can use a small camera to inspect the inner construction.
In 2011 the owner of No. 122 has had an exhaust manufactured by Quicksilver via a Dutch intermediary company. He was quite satisfied about the result. A picture of this particular exhaust is available on the Quicksilver website:
Quicksilver exhausts are by default manufactured in Stainless Steel. On request they can however also be made of Mild Steel, this will reduce the cost of that exhaust by approximately 10%.
You may opt for Mild Steel if you are concerned about the sound of a Stainless Steel exhaust. Quicksilver however stated that for the exhausts that they manufacture, there is no difference in sound between Mild Steel and Stainless Steel.
What is the plan?
The plan is to ship an existing original M35 exhaust system to Quicksilver. They can then use that “pattern” to start manufacturing the new exhausts.
Next to that we could drive an M35 to the Quicksilver factory in the UK. They can then see how the exhaust is actually mounted on the vehicle and if necessary adjust the design based on that.
This is probably the best we can do to ensure that the new exhaust will fit on your M35. It is however important to realise that the manufacturing of the new exhausts is done by hand. The same holds true for the original manufacturing of the M35 itself by Citroën and Heuliez. This may lead to tolerances that still have to be solved when mounting the new exhaust.
How much will it cost?
Last year we received the following indicative prices from Quicksilver:
1 exhaust GBP 900
2-4 exhausts GBP 800 each
5-9 exhausts GBP 680 each
10 or more GBP 550 each
On top of this you must take account of 20% VAT and GBP 50 shipping cost (to EU countries; full overview on the Quicksilver website).
The shipping cost will go down if we can have multiple exhausts delivered to one location. If you have your own company then maybe some VAT arrangements can be made.
Additionally the cost for shipping the “pattern” to Quicksilver will be added to the total.
A trip with our M35 to the Quicksilver factory in the UK will off course not be charged to the participants of this initiative.
